August 2020: Books and Turning 30!

Birthday Brunch to-go at Maple Street

I feel like I can take a huge breath out. I am thankful for my 20’s. I learned and loved and lived. I became a wife. I started a business. I became a homeowner. I became a mother. In my thirties I would like to grow and deepen. Push down roots and reach up. A big part of that growth is reading. Here’s where I’m at:

I finished Inland! I rent digital books through our library and sometimes I have to return, place another hold and wait for my turn again. Téa Obreht writes so descriptively. I really got lost in the setting, but sometimes also lost in the story. Like wait, what happened? It was challenging and I enjoyed looking up words. But also a lot of kid injuries - that’s hard on a mama. I was glad to finish it. :)

The Wives. (OMG!) I read it on my auntie’s recommendation and IT WAS SO GOOD. I finished the book in 48 hours. The story has many twists and turns. I really had to think deeply on each character. Who is the real “bad person?” Are there any truly all good people? Are we all mad in some way? For some reason, I really felt for the main character’s father. Maybe it is my perspective growing as a parent. Read it and let me know what you think!
